Monterey Peninsula Water Management District (MPWMD)

The Monterey Peninsula Water Management District (MPWMD) provides water for approximately 100,000 people in the Monterey Peninsula [1]. MPWMD's service area includes: Carmel-by-the-Sea, Del-Rey Oaks, Monterey, Pacific Grove, Seaside, Sand City, Monterey Peninsula Airport District and portions of Unincorporated Monterey County including Pebble Beach and Carmel Valley [1]. State Legislature created MPWMD on June 6, 1978 with four legislated functions, "(1) Augment the water supply through integrated management of ground and surface water resources; (2) Promote water conservation; (3) Promote water reuse and reclamation of storm and wastewater; (4) Foster the scenic values, environmental quality, native vegetation, fish and wildlife, and recreation on the Monterey Peninsula and in the Carmel River basin."
