The California Department of Water Resources manages all public water resources in the state of California "to benefit the State's people, and to protect, restore, and enhance the natural human environments. They ensure that the California Water Code is being enforced.

History

The California Department of Water Resources was formed in 1956 by the state legislature to design, construct and manage the State Water Project which was to bring water to southern California from the north to supply increasing demand. [1]
