The [[Monterey Peninsula Water Supply Project]] by Cal-Am will use a desalination plant as the main source of water for the Monterey Peninsula thereby reducing the amount of water extracted from the Carmel Valley alluvial aquifer.

Summary

The Carmel Valley alluvial aquifer resides in the lower 15 miles of the Carmel River and is underlain by Miocene marine shales. [1] The California American Water Company, Cal-Am, is the direct supplier water to the Monterey Peninsula, extracting water primarily from the Carmel Valley alluvial aquifer. The Monterey Peninsula Water Supply Project by Cal-Am will use a desalination plant as the main source of water for the Monterey Peninsula thereby reducing the amount of water extracted from the Carmel Valley alluvial aquifer.
