The City of Salinas Treatment Plant treats water from food processing facilities and the treated water is sent to spreading basins where it can percolate into the groundwater aquifers or evaporate [1].

The Monterey Peninsula Water Management District (MPWMD), Monterey Regional Water Pollution Control Agency (MRWPCA), and California American Water Company (Cal-Am) have proposed using the treated water as a water source for the Monterey Peninsula Groundwater Replenishment Project.
