Overview

The Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLI-FLC) is located on the Presidio of Monterey in Monterey, California. It is the Defense Department's primary center for foreign language instruction.

History in the Central Coast of California

  • In 1946, the Military Intelligence Service Language School was moved to the Presidio and renamed the Army Language School.
  • In June 1963, the school was renamed the Defense Language Institute.
  • In 1976, it became the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (cite).

Current Land Management

The DLI-FLC is located at the Presidio of Monterey and is under the management of the U.S. Army and the Department of Defense.
