Description

The Old Salinas River Channel is a small channel connecting the Salinas Lagoon to the mouth of Elkhorn Slough and the Moss Landing Harbor. The channel flows north on the inland side of the dunes, and is used as an overflow channel during the winter [1]. A slide gate at the northwest end of the Salinas River Lagoon allows periodic drainage into the Old Salinas River, and is operated by Monterey County Water Resources Agency as part of lagoon management operations for flood protection of surrounding agricultural lands.
