Summary

The Seaside Basin Aquifer and Storage Recovery (ASR) project takes water pumped from the Carmel River and injects it into the Seaside Groundwater Basin.[1] The Seaside Basin allows for an increase in storage capacity for Monterey Peninsula Residents during dry periods of time.[1] Other benefits of ASR is that it decreases the overdraft issues within the Seaside Basin as well as limits the potential of Seawater intrusion. The ASR project is managed by the Monterey Peninsula Water Management District (MPWMD) and California American Water Company (CalAm).
