The Lower Salinas Watershed drains into the Salinas River Lagoon and includes Blanco Drain, Toro Creek, Quail Creek, Chualar Creek and other tributaries of the Salinas River. The Reclamation Ditch connects the lagoon to the Moss Landing Harbor.

The Lagoon

The Salinas River Lagoon is managed for flood control, as the lagoon is surrounded by agricultural lands and a small colony of houses in the dunes[1]. The Salinas River Lagoon is generally not used by steelhead for summer rearing. The steelhead are more often found rearing in the large tributaries to the Salinas river, such as the Arroyo Seco.

Part of the lagoon management plan is to mechanically breach the mouth of the lagoon, so inflow is discharged from the Salinas Lagoon directly into Monterey Bay.
