Overview
A federal agency within the United States Department of the Interior, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) was formed in 1946 by President Harry S. Truman in the combination of two existing government agencies, the General Land Office and the Grazing Service. On the Monterey Peninsula, the BLM Central Coast Field Office manages the Fort Ord National Monument (FONM) near Salinas, California.
