Algae Biomonitoring and Assessment of Central Coast Watersheds

A CCoWS project for the State Water Resources Control Board

Proposed start 2007, 3 year study

In this project, algae will be used as an indicator of ecological status of freshwaters along the central coast from San Luis Obispo to San Mateo Counties and to develop numeric criteria for nitrogen and phosphorous to protect beneficial uses.

The final outcome will propose numeric water quality standards to protect the beneficial uses of the surface waters that drain into the Monterey Bay.
