The basemap layer is a shaded relief raster derived from the USGS National Elevation Dataset using TNT Mips software. The spawning area data layer was created by identified areas that consisted of either gravel (0.25 – 2.5 inches in diameter) or small cobble (2.5 – 5 inches in diameter) and were at least 3’ by 3’ in area. Some areas were located at pool tail crests but many were areas in glides or riffles. Areas containing sand were not considered spawning areas, although adult steelhead may use these areas with limited success. Areas containing bedrock,boulders, or large cobble were not considered to be spawning areas. All spawning area locations are measured in feet upstream from the start of the survey at the ocean. Spawning data was collected by California Department of Fish and Game. The watershed boundaries layer was derived from the California Interagency Watershed Map of 1999 (Calwater 2.2.1,updated May 2004) by merging HSA (Hydrologic Sub-Area)level boundaries. |
