The Carmel Valley aquifer lies along the downstream portion of the Carmel River located southeast of the Monterey Peninsula.

The Carmel River drains the 250 square mile Carmel River Watershed into the Pacific Ocean at Carmel Bay.[1] The groundwater basin is primarily the Carmel Valley floor. The floor is about 16 miles long and varies in width from 300 to 4,500 feet. [1] [2]
