Tarsier Tutorial: Using veneer as relief

From CCoWS Wiki
Jump to: navigation, search

Prerequisites

  • Data:
    • Two raster layers(e.g. vegetation and model output rasters).
  • Working Renderview window with at least one terrain and one color raster loaded.

Using veneer as relief

  1. Make sure your RenderView window is selected. This is is the window with about 35 different tabs on with names like 'Raster', 'Sites', 'Cam1', 'World', 'Ven', 'Time', 'Sun' etc.
  2. Go to the Ven tab. This tab has two UseeControls like the generic one below:
    UseeControl.JPG
UseeControls are one of the ways Tarsier loads and shares data, you can learn more about it here: Tarsier: UseeControl.
  3. Go to the Veneer: UseeControl and click the Open button. Browse to the raster that you want to use as relief (e.g 440/550 class would use the LandCover4_BGST.tra raster) and click open.
    1. Set the density ('Den') to about 0.3
  4. Your veneer should show up on top of your terrain. If not showing...
    1. Make sure the veneer is enabled by checking the checkbox on the upper left corner of the Ven tab.

Using a different raster for the color

  1. If you want the relief to get colors from a different raster, say a model output raster.
    1. Go the right side of the Ven tab.
    2. Go to UseeControl named Veneer color and load your color raster(e.g. your output Y1Raster.tra) by selecting it from the drop-down box. If the raster is not there, you can click the Open button to load it.
    3. Check the Use veener color raster? box.
  2. If colors look weird...
    1. click the C button next to the enable checkbox. This will bring it up a colorscheme window. Here you can change the colors to whatever makes sense for your raster or model output.
  3. Now go to the VenT tab.
    1. Go to the upper left corner and uncheck the Ven 1 Trasparent checkbox. This will make your veneer easier to see.
  • You're going to end up with something that looks like the picture below.
